I was all set to get this blog rolling again. I even had a list of a post to write and then stuff happened. Like.. a lot of stuff.
March was a huge shift in so many aspects of my life. The first big thing was I finally got a permanent residence here in Denmark. This was an 11-year process and it was a huge relief to finally be able to have this security. This means I no longer have to reapply every couple of years to be allowed to stay here. I am just here. I no longer have to make job decisions based on what will allow me to stay in the country.
Speaking of jobs…
Last year I was close to closing Mini Backdrops. However, I decided to keep it going because if I had closed it at that time I would not have been able to apply for my permanent visa. I did really well with it. It grew substantially and could have been bigger. BUT… it was always something I started only because I saw an opportunity in the market and I needed to have something. It was never something I saw myself doing 5 or 10 years from now. Even with it being successful I was always questioning if I would be happy doing it in the future. Don’t get me wrong, there were aspects of it I loved. I met some really awesome small business owners. But, ultimately I decided to close the webshop at the beginning of April. It was becoming overwhelming for one person to handle and was not making enough extra to hire someone. The situation would have been 100% different if I did not have 4 kids and could work 16 hours a day every day. But that isn’t my life… So I walked away from my successful business. A lot of people think I am crazy for it. If I am going to be honest.. once those last orders got sent out I had a lot less stress.
So where does that leave me now? Jobless? Not quite.
I still have a contracting job for APPEN. and I have started something new. I am now working with a local riding center helping to get some projects off the ground. It has a patreon page if you want to check that out. It is pretty exciting and I am really loving it. Also, I get to spend time with horses. Which is awesome and fulfilling. At the moment this job isn’t paid, however, there are benefits such as free lessons and I get to work with one of the horses as much as I want, and I can spend as much time as I want there. Pretty much free range of the place. With is great, and has inspired my photography again. I have decided to devote a whole blog about it called The Equine Soul.
To make some extra money I am also launching Not So Ugly Ducklings SEO later this week. I will do a full post about that once it is ready.
So that is what March and April looked like. I promise to start blogging about the kids, family life and life in Denmark again soon…
